Chill Denver Skateboard Instructor (Independent Contractor)

This is an Independent Contractor position based in Denver, Colorado or within a reasonable commute to Denver to lead in skateboard instruction on site at local programs. The contract hours, time and dates will vary and are dependent on season and program dates. The independently contracted Chill Denver Skateboard Instructor can expect 3-5 instruction days per program, with 14-22 hours per program. The pay rate is $19.00 - $22.00 depending on experience.  

 

Chill Denver Skateboard Instructor (Independent Contractor) Responsibilities

  1. Serve as the Lead instructor for Chill’s beginner youth skateboard program (15 youth)
  2. Develop a lesson plan each day that reflects youth abilities
  3. Create and teach lessons with creativity and ability to adjust layout and style (i.e. include progression games and fun ways to learn new techniques)
  4. Collaborate and support with 3-5 volunteer mentors, 1-2 youth agency chaperones & Chill Program & Community Coordinator each day of program
  5. Cultivate a positive learning environment with personal awareness of challenges youth may face

To achieve success in this role, you will be able to:

  • Have a lesson plan prepared for each group, each day of program
  • In lesson plans, include: progressions, flexibility and interactive games 
  • Arrive on time with your own equipment, prepared to teach with a positive attitude
  • Model and prioritize safety to youth by wearing a helmet at all times while skating (helmet can be borrowed from Chill) 
  • Cater to different learning strengths by being flexible and using a combination of verbal and visual instruction

 

Experience & Skills

  • 3+ years skateboarding
  • Intermediate to advanced level rider with understanding of equipment maintenance
  • Ability to lesson plan, coordinate groups, and provide flexibility in individual progression 
  • Ability to work with a variety of skill levels & youth challenges
  • Experience working with youth aged 11-19 
  • Experience working with populations who have historically faced greater challenges through marginalization
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to collaborate with the Chill Program Facilitator and provide clear direction for volunteers 
  • Highly organized, with experience working independently & managing time efficiently
