Manager, Health and Safety

Position Summary: 

Reporting to the Vice President, Supply Chain; the role supports the growth and profitability of Griffith Foods Canada by proactively analyzing, designing, and implementing health and safety strategies and programs. This position will lead a team with one (1) direct report.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Champion our safety culture and provide leadership in developing and implementing Health and Safety strategies.
  • Promote and enforce Health and Safety regulations and safe working practices, while ensuring current compliance with Occupational Health and Safety legislation and Acts.
  • Work with all safety program administrators to collect and maintain legislative and Company required documentation.
  • Plan, organize, develop and implement health and safety training including annual refresher training; coordinate and administer training records for all required training and orientation.
  • Conduct regular updates with safety program administrators to ensure program continuity and compliance.
  • Develop strong relationships and facilitate employee-led, behavior-based safety processes in a team-based environment.
  • Work collaboratively with Managers/Team leaders to identify and evaluate risks associated with hazards in the workplace and recommend changes to eliminate or control hazards.
  • Participate as an active member of the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC), providing support and guidance to co-chairs.
  • Develop and implement safety statistics reporting and other health and safety reporting.
  • Support all accident and near miss investigations to uncover root cause and track completion of corrective actions.
  • Management of WSIB claims and return to work process for all occupational injuries/illnesses.
  • Conduct ongoing inspections and safety audits; provide on-the-spot- training as needed.
  • Participate in third party audits as required.

 

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 7 years progressive Health and Safety experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Post-secondary education in a relevant field.
  • Certified Registered Safety Professional designation (CRSP) is considered an asset.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to influence others to follow safety practices, procedures, and regulations.
  • Thorough working knowledge and understanding of all relevant occupational health and safety legislation.
  • Strong customer service skills with an ability to handle issues/inquiries in a professional manner.
  • Excellent understanding of workflow process analysis, accident/ incident investigation and risk management principles.
  • Solid organizational and planning skills with ability to delegate or escalate to management when required.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work within a team or independently as needed.
  • Strong proficiency in MS Office, Sharepoint and Learning Management Systems.
  • Ergonomic experience an asset.
