Summary:

The Environmental, Health and Safety Specialist  is responsible for developing, implementing, maintaining and training on all environmental, health and safety programs and related policies and procedures. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conducts, assigns and participates in health & safety audits, including the development of and drafting of audit documentation, tracking corrective actions, and monitoring of trends.
  • Builds positive relationships at all levels and across diverse cultures to create and maintain a positive safety culture.
  • Develops and implements corrective/preventative actions that improve the safety and environmental conditions of the facility.
  • Conducts investigations and root cause analysis and communicates findings to the appropriate departments and/or leadership.
  • Assists in job hazard and environmental assessments and participates in the development and implementation of improved processes and procedures. 
  • Maintains current knowledge of industry and regulatory laws, guidelines, and practices.
  • Communicates and initiates improvements resulting from changing regulations.
  • Maintains EHS databases, files and records; modifies and implements compliance tracking programs and recordkeeping systems.
  • Assists Technical Trainers in the development of technical documents including EHS and Operational procedures, programs, job aides and training documents.
  • Develops and conducts training on environmental and safety programs, policies and procedures. 
  • Provides routine reminders and training for site leaders on protocol and upward communication steps to be taken in the event of unannounced OSHA, EPA, Fire Department or another regulatory agency visit.
  • Supports the EHS Manager in responding to emergency situations during or after hours.
  • Completes preliminary budgetary information, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Work Instructions (WIs), and other paperwork according to established company policy. 
  • Maintains confidentiality of employee injury information, OSHA reports and investigations and other related sensitive and confidential information. 
  • Exhibits regular and predictable attendance and works outside of the normal schedule as needed due to workplace demands (e.g. supporting off-shifts).  Performs other related duties as required.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Graduate/GED equivalent degree required:  AAS in Environmental Technology or related field, preferred.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in environmental, health and safety in a manufacturing environment.
  • OSHA 30 hour certification, 40 hour HAZWOPER. RCRA and Hazardous Waste Management Certification is strongly preferred.

  • Knowledge of: Microsoft Office Suite: FDA Good Manufacturing Practices and OSHA Safety Requirements;

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds manually. 
  • A climate-controlled office environment; the noise level is usually moderately quiet; however the individual must be able to work for extended periods of time in the Production area where the noise level is moderately loud. 
  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time in front of a computer, stand, walk, use hands to handle and feel, reach with hands or arms, stoop, crouch, talk, hear, push and pull
  • Exposure to frequent movement of motorized equipment throughout the facility, including electric pallet jacks, forklifts, etc.
