The Corporate Payroll Manager is the senior-most payroll person and subject matter expert in the company, responsible for all US and Canada payroll and managing associated tax and compliance issues.  The successful candidate must have experience with multi-state, multi-union payroll, preferably in industrial companies. Candidate must have high level or problem-solving ability, provide exceptional customer service to employees, help managers to achieve their business goals, pay extreme attention to detail and work with a sense of urgency while always looking for continuous improvement opportunities. 

 

This position reports to the Chief Human Resources Officer, is based in Houston, Texas, and will manage a team of geographically diverse payroll specialists across 40+ locations and more than 3,500 people.

 

 

SKILLS & CRITICAL TASKS

  • Extremely organized, able to plan out process improvement plans and monitor adherence to company-defined requirements
  • Knowledge and experience managing a complete, end-to-end payroll process, including compliance, controls, reporting, quality checks, garnishments, and payroll vendor management

  • Deep knowledge and experience with Ceridian (Dayforce) or other comparable payroll software required
  • Must become familiar with all company HR policies and practices to ensure proper implementation in payroll
  • Maintains knowledge of governmental reporting requirements and regulations affecting payroll and human resources
  • Assists with the development and continuous improvement of Human Resources policies related to payroll
  • Advises and counsels Operations Leaders and Human Resources team members on payroll practices and compliance

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in payroll
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience leading the payroll function
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience with multi-union payroll
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Payroll tax and benefits knowledge
  • Associates degree required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Industrial experience preferred
  • Experience implementing/transitioning payroll systems preferred
  • Clean driving record and ability to provide proof of the right to work in the United States required
