Position Summary:

Reporting to the Food Safety Manager, the Food Safety Specialist is a hands-on individual who has a dedication for driving change and for building a culture of food safety and product quality.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Conducts daily food safety audits to ensure food safety compliance to the customer/BRC/third party audit standards (HACCP and prerequisite program verifications).
  • Conducts Internal Food Safety Audits and maintains the program.
  • Ensures Food Safety Audits are conducted as required by the team and follows up on the NCRs with applicable departments.
  • Follows up on Food Safety System NCRs to effectively implement corrective action/preventive action.
  • Participates in the BRC Internal Audit Program to ensure that customer/BRC/third party audit standards are incorporated.
  • Verifies HACCP/ Food Safety documents and executes validations as per program.
  • Prepares and participates in external and client audits.
  • Assists in the maintenance of operation work instructions and Food Safety procedures as required.
  • Participates in development and maintenance of training presentations related to the Food Safety Programs (HACCP/ Food Safety, allergens, GMP’s, procedure revisions) as required.
  • Prepares data reports as requested and suggests corrective actions.
  • Ensures timely and accurate reporting on a monthly, quarterly and yearly basis to Food Safety Manager.
  • Monitors outside contractors performing projects and validates when applicable.
  • Supports, conducts, and participates in RCA (Root Cause Analysis process).
  • Develops and implements food safety management system procedures and processes, to instill a positive food safety culture.
  • Responsible for completion of all CFIA tasks and exports. CFIA inspector contact person.
  • Participates in special projects, other duties or tasks that may be assigned as required.

 

Qualifications: 

  • University Degree – Required.
  • Minimum 2+ years’ experience within food manufacturing – Required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Works cooperatively with others on the team and other departments.
  • Shows personal commitment and acts to continuously to improve.
