Title:2ndShift Production Supervisor

Location:Custom Culinary Avon, OH

Reports to:  Plant Manager

 

Purpose of the Position

To efficiently coordinate the daily shift activities of all production and processing areas of the facility.

 

 Major Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform Supervisory responsibilities such as interviewing, hiring and training employees, planning/assigning/directing work tasks, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems. 
  • Ensures new employees are trained on department procedures, job tasks and work instructions.  Ensures all GMP's and safety rules are being followed according to company policy.
  • Use LSW (Leader Standard Work) to manage the execution of the daily production schedule by coordinating manufacturing activities and labor efficiently.  This includes prep activities for upcoming products, MSS and sanitation tasks, CIP's and other cleaning tasks needed. 
  • Ensure safety, quality, legality, and authenticity of products in accordance with regulations and standards, as this role dictates.
  • Learn RedZone production software for the tablets to help track production status, efficiency (OEE) and compliance adherence. Also utilize the different communication functions such as Huddles, and the multiple chats and forums to communicate through shift changes with employees and other supervisor
  • Strong floor presence (~70% of shift) is necessary in this role to ensure product flow and activities run smoothly.  It is important to perform random walk-throughs on the floor to monitor performance, safety, quality and facility security. 
  • Monitors productivity by ensuring efficient start-up and changeover times in each of the processing rooms.
  • Coordinates and manages employee labor hours worked and scheduled time off through Dayforce time clock software.
  • Collaborates with the Maintenance/Engineering departments on equipment or process issues to prevent downtime.  Creates work orders as necessary.
  • Creates a teamwork environment across all shifts with employees and leads by example.
  • Participates in the Root Cause Analysis (RCA) program whenever a production batch doesn't meet specification.  This includes completing the proper forms and conducting an investigation to gather all necessary facts and data.
  • Participates in the Griffith Continuous Improvement (GPS) program of generating cost saving ideas or opportunities.  This includes assisting with writing a summary, obtaining vendor quotes and preparing a cost justification analysis.
  • Assists Plant Manager with controlling costs, variances and expenses.
  • Supports OTIF and CFR Service Levels, Capacity Utilization, Safety & Quality metrics, GPS Targets, and cost Mfg $/lb.
  • Proactively communicates production issues to appropriate internal resources and helps coordinate solutions.
  • Coaches, motivates and develops workers to be successful in their assigned roles, and provides feedback and/or progressive discipline as appropriate. 
  • Interprets company policies to workers and enforces safety and quality policies.
  • Assists with investigation and satisfactory disposition of internal issues, customer complaints and audit findings.
  • Oversees associate training.
  • Actively works with Talent Acquisition (TA) and temp labor agencies to recruit for open roles.
  • Assists on the floor as needed.
  • Works closely with Continuous Improvement resources to implement lean tools and GPS Roadmap initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Working Relationships:

 

  • Reports to the Plant Manager.
  • Directly supervises 10-20 hourly employees within Staging, Cooking, Filling, Packing and Sanitation.
  • Ability to work harmoniously with management and other departments such as:  marketing, sales, warehousing, planning, maintenance, quality, HR, R&D, etc.
  • Frequent interaction with maintenance contractors, waste and recycling service providers, chemical suppliers, temporary staffing agencies, outside warehouses and uniform provider.    

Requirements:

 

Education and/or Experience                                                               

  • High school diploma required; Bachelor's degree preferred in operations management, business or related discipline.
  • 5+ years of production or operations experience.
  • 3+ years of successful experience in a supervisory or leadership capacity in the manufacturing industry.  Food manufacturing with liquid processes preferred.                                                       
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate with individuals and small groups.
  • Bilingual preferred, not required.                                
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. 
  • Ability to calculate percentages, proportions, and apply basic concepts of algebra. 
  • Ability to calculate and understand business indices and interpret graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed oral or written instructions. Ability to analyze and solve problems.                                
  • Proficient in MS Outlook, Excel, Word and Power Point.
  • Experience using ERP systems such as SAP or DAX.
  • Ability to conduct training using Alchemy Manager.
  • Experience with Lean manufacturing a plus.
  • Must be able to complete company’s forklift certification program to operate an electric pallet jack, stand-up forklift and other PIE equipment necessary.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand and walk to communicate and listen effectively.   This will require both office and plant floor environments.  The employee may occasionally need to operate and drive a forklift or electronic pallet jack to transport materials or goods.

 

Environmental Concerns

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to cold temperatures in a refrigerated cooler or freezer, and also wet environments in wash down areas.
