Job Title: GPS Manager (CI Manager)

Reports To: David Martinez, VP of Supply Chain

Location: Oswego, IL / Travel Required 25%

Summary:   This position is responsible for Supply Chain current processes improvement, new products processes implementation, capacity and efficiency standards and KPI’s definition; as well as overall process standardization to continuously improve cost competitiveness while supporting a sustainable operation at employee safety, ergonomics and planet care metrics. This position is responsible for analyzing, identifying and leading the implementation of changes that drive detected improvements.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

 

Efficiency Improvement:

  • Responsible of leading the GPS (Griffith Production System) continuous improvement process based on TPS philosophy.
  • Responsible for improving the efficiency of the operation by use of mathematical methods and use of Lean Manufacturing tools, such as Standardized Work, Kaizen, Heijunka, Jidoka, and Continuous Flow to redesign manufacturing and information technology systems.
  • Identifies process bottlenecks and constraints and provides solutions for eliminating those obstacles.
  • Research, evaluate, and recommend equipment and/or software technologies to drive process automation and cost improvement.

 

Standardization:

  • Identifies areas for standardizing processes and equipment to be utilized across Custom Culinary® Manufacturing Plants.
  • Manages and maintains the reporting of Metrics, KPI’s, and Scorecards for Manufacturing Plants.
  • Coordinates and facilitates cultural initiatives with personnel such as Kobetsu Kaizen, Autonomous Maintenance Events, coordination of TPM implementation, CMMS.
  • Coordinates and facilitates 5S, SMED, and Lean Manufacturing projects as needed.

 

Other Responsibilities:

  • Coordination of the SCM GPE process, ideation sessions, project funnel and progress tracking.
  • Coordination of the SCM and FSQS IT and ERP enhancements project list and progress tracking.
  • Will have direct influence on our ability to improve overall operations efficiency to achieve OI targets, should have a strong influence in securing the long-term business competitiveness.
  • Will have critical influence in expanding our capacity within the facilities existing footprint.
  • This position is the key enabler of company key initiative of “improving manufacturing cost”.
  • This position is responsible for contributing to GPE and overall manufacturing cost per pound budgets 
  • Operating budget will be determined by the amount of capital or expense funds available.

 

 

 

 

Requirements:          

  • The position requires strong problem-solving skills.
  • The position requires strong ability to perform Work Shops, Kaizen activities as a day-to-day responsibility.
  • The position requires must collaborate effectively with plant operators to achieve agreement and buy-in for process changes and new equipment/technology.
  • The position must manage multiple priorities simultaneously, while driving projects to completion.
  • The position requires must communicate effectively with employees at all levels of the organization and identify team members’ capabilities and limitations.

    

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Engineering or Operations management or equivalent; 5-10 years related experience in Food Manufacturing facilities.
  • Lean Manufacturing/Six Sigma training or certification required
  • TPM experience highly preferred

 

Working Relationships:

Internal

  • Reports to Custom Culinary Supply Chain & Ops VP 
  • Works with internal Plant Management, Supply Chain, Quality Systems, IT, and Engineering teams
  • This position has 2 dotted line reports; Process Improvement Engineers located in the Oswego and Avon plants
  • Responsibility for both Avon and Oswego facilities
  • Work Globally with WW Griffith Supply Chain contacts

 

External

  • Hardware, Software, and Equipment Vendors
  • External Consultants as required

 

Work Environment:

  • Strong shop floor environment, some office time expected to perform analysis.
  • Job will require time spent in the Manufacturing and Warehouse areas, requiring proper PPE – lab coat, ear plugs, safety glasses, and hair nets.
  • Computer, phone.
  • Proficient in MS Excel, Project and related tools utilization.
  • Minitab highly preferred
