This is a remote position based in the US with occasional travel.


About the role:

As we continue to grow and evolve in a rapidly changing industry, we seek a forward-thinking General Counsel who is eager to embrace the future of law and technology to enhance our legal strategies and business operations.


This role requires a visionary legal leader who can navigate complex regulatory environments, drive strategic initiatives, and leverage technology to improve legal and business outcomes. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in life insurance and annuities, coupled with a passion for innovation and a deep understanding of the legal challenges and opportunities in the financial services sector.



What You’ll Do:


  • Strategy and Leadership
    • Provide strategic legal advice on a wide range of issues, including regulatory compliance, risk management, corporate governance, and business transactions.
    • Lead and manage the legal department, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and innovation.
  • Regulatory Compliance and Risk Management
    • Ensure the company complies with all applicable laws and regulations, including those specific to the life insurance and annuity industry
    • Develop and implement effective risk management strategies to protect the company’s interests.
  • Innovative Legal Solutions
    • Embrace and integrate legal technology solutions to streamline processes, enhance efficiency, and reduce costs.
    • Stay abreast of legal tech trends and advancements, recommending and implementing new tools and systems as appropriate.
  • Corporate Governance
    • Oversee corporate governance practices, ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.
    • Advise on governance best practices and support board meetings and activities.
  • Litigation and Dispute Resolution
    • Manage litigation and dispute resolution processes, working with external counsel as needed.
    • Develop strategies to minimize litigation risks and resolve disputes efficiently.




Skills and Experience:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • A minimum of 15 years of legal experience, with significant experience in the life insurance and annuity industry and specifically supporting insurance products
  • Proven track record of leveraging legal technology to drive efficiencies and innovation.
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory frameworks and compliance requirements in the financial services sector.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Everly offers a competitive salary and as a full-time employee you are eligible for our robust benefits package including:


  • Employees are eligible for an annual incentive bonus designed to reward for performance.
  • The salary range for this job in most geographic locations in the US is $324,000 - $426,000
    • Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location and will be reflected in the candidate’s offer letter. 
  • 20 days of paid time off for PTO,  plus paid holidays, days of Significance, and a Volunteer Day
