Position Overview:

As the Wellness Director at the Ascension St. Vincent YMCA in Westfield, you will oversee the full spectrum of health and wellness programs under the guidance of the Executive Director. This role involves managing personal training, corporate wellness initiatives, group exercise classes, wellness programs, and activities for active older adults, ensuring a comprehensive and engaging experience for our members. You will be responsible for the development and administration of the department, including program creation, marketing, implementation, and evaluation. Key duties include staff scheduling and supervision, managing financial operations in line with Center and Association goals, and fostering a community-centric atmosphere. Direct supervision of part-time Wellness Advisors and Instructors is a key aspect of this role, with a focus on building strong relationships and a supportive environment within the YMCA.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Emergency Response: Act as a First Responder, ensuring safety and well-being in emergencies.
  • Budget Oversight: Develop and manage program budgets, meeting financial targets, and controlling expenses in consultation with the Executive Director.
  • Team Development: Recruit, train, and supervise staff and volunteers, ensuring high-quality program delivery.
  • Program Evaluation: Assess and enhance wellness programs, implementing changes and new initiatives to meet Center and Association goals.
  • Policy Guidance: Guide center committees in developing policies and programs aligned with YMCA objectives.
  • Community Representation: Communicate Association goals to the community, strengthening relationships and enhancing the YMCA’s reputation.
  • Operational Oversight: Share responsibilities for Center supervision, public relations, planning, and promotions to ensure smooth operations.
  • Performance Review: Conduct annual evaluations of department personnel, ensuring staff performance meets organizational standards.
  • Facility Management: Oversee and maintain department equipment and facilities.
  • Income Generation: Support financial sustainability through membership fees and special subsidies.
  • Fundraising and Member Growth: Contribute to annual fundraising goals and support member growth initiatives through engaging programs.
  • Facility Scheduling: Schedule facilities to accommodate program needs.
  • Program Coordination: Organize and direct program activities, prepare reports, and ensure alignment with the YMCA’s mission and goals.
  • Additional Duties: Participate in various projects and activities as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and commitment.
  • Leadership Presence: Serve as Manager on Duty, overseeing operations and addressing immediate needs for a seamless environment.

 

What We’re Looking For:

  • Experience & Education: 2-4 years of experience in program development and administration, preferably with the YMCA or a similar organization. Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Exercise Science, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Skills & Certifications: Current health and fitness certifications preferred. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills are essential. Ability to work effectively with volunteers and engage with a diverse community.
  • Leadership: Proven track record in managing personnel, developing programs, and achieving financial targets. Ability to handle multiple responsibilities and adapt to a fast-paced environment.
