KNOW HOW

Ø Minimum 18 years old and a high school diploma, or its equivalent, is required.

Ø Experience working with young children/adults preferred.

Ø Knowledge of children ages 2-6 and an understanding of their needs and development.

Ø Must have experience in handling conflict situations with parents and children.

Ø Must be capable of establishing and maintaining positive relationships with staff, parents, program participants, and with the general public.

Ø Must be able to work as a team member and possess the core values that meet the YMCA mission.

Ø Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding personal information on children, family and YMCA staff.

Ø Maintain current certifications in First Aid, Safety & Risk Management, Child Abuse Prevention and New Employee Orientation or the ability to obtain within 60-90 days of employment.

PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES

Ø Provide safe programs and environment for all participants, volunteers and staff.

Ø Provide a quality environment in preschool program, taking into consideration the needs of each child and the goals and objectives of the YMCA.

Ø Assist with the administrative duties of the programs, including preparing reports, maintaining records and accounts, such as class rosters and account delinquencies.

Ø Assist with compiling program supply order and document work order needs for program repairs.

Ø Assist with providing consistent communication to parents, participants and members as needed, throughout the year.

Ø Attend and contribute to all staff meetings and in-service training.

Ø Assist with scheduling special classes (gym, music, & swimming) and programs for preschool.

Ø Adhere to the YMCA dress code and assist in monitoring staff for appropriate dress.

Ø Have knowledge of emergency procedures and assist in emergency situations as needed.

Ø Model and utilize appropriate YMCA behavior management techniques.

Ø Exhibit a positive and cooperative attitude towards department staff, parents, participants and the YMCA.

Ø Obtain and maintain current TB test, CPR and First Aid certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training, as well as other training required for YMCA Youth & Family employees.

Ø Actively participate in the Invest-In-Youth annual campaign.

Ø Attend all staff meetings and training associated with the department and Branch.

Ø Assist with other projects or activities as needed.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Ø Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.

Ø Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. and transport equipment.

Ø Ability to bend at the knees and waist.

Ø Ability to visibly observe participants.

Ø Ability to concentrate even when distracted by noise and activity.

Ø Ability to walk up and down 20-30 steps.

Ø Ability to serve snack.

Ø Ability to demonstrate and lead activities.

Ø Ability to communicate with children, parents and volunteers effectively.

Ø Ability to reason, solve problems and make sound judgment and decisions.

Ø Ability to observe and promote safety and security procedures.

Ø Ability to physically and mentally respond to emergencies and administer CPR and First Aid effectively.

MEMBER INVOLVEMENT SKILLS

Ø Be informed and up to date on the latest developments in your field.

Ø Acquaint members with other YMCA programs and benefits.

Ø Develop relationships that promote the building of small communities.

Ø Recommend participation in a variety of YMCA programs.

Ø Support our YMCA annual campaign by inviting members to participate.

Ø Be able to articulate the role and importance of volunteers.

Ø Be informed about volunteer opportunities.

Ø Provide an environment in which valuing diversity is encouraged and the 40 Developmental Assets can be built and emphasized.
