TITLE:                           Engineering Technician

REPORTS TO:              Tech Shop Supervisor

DEPARTMENT:           Engineering

SUPERVISES:               N/A

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS: Primary reporting relationship up through Engineering Manager from Tech Shop, with primary interfacing and collaboration with Safety, Maintenance, Line Setup, Continuous Improvement and Operations departments.

 

BASIC FUNCTION:

Troubleshoot and repair production equipment.  Aid machine shop personnel in construction of specialized equipment. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Work with project and cross-functional teams to lay out new assembly lines for production.
  2. Interface with Setup mechanics team as needed to ensure proper setup and operation of equipment.
  3. Train mechanics in proper use and care of production machinery.
  4. Fabricate guards and covers for production equipment.
  5. Responsible for quick repair of production machinery with minimum downtime.
  6. Rebuild production machinery to maintain maximum production.
  7. Responsible for following all safety regulations including but not limited to wearing goggles/safety eyewear, face shield, proper clothing, safety shoes, and/or other PPE as work necessitates.
  8. Responsible for safe lock-out-tag-out procedure adherence.
  9. Basic understanding of pneumatic, electrical, and/or hydraulic principles and systems.
  10. Able to read and understand blueprints, equipment diagrams, and technical drawings/schematics.
  11. Exhibits good and professional communication skills along with clear ability to provide and understand instructions from and to team members and supervision.
  12. Ability to use phone, e-mail and internet to source materials/services and communicate with vendors and internal team members.
  13. Responsible for other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High School Diploma.
  2. Minimum three (3) years in manufacturing industry plus one or more of the following: 

a)  specialized training in major production equipment such as video jet coder, fillers, cappers, powder presses, etc. 

b) welding, brazing, soldering 

c)  machine shop or maintenance training or experience.

d) demonstrated experience in programming, troubleshooting, and maintaining automation equipment controls. (Allen-Bradley preferred)- and/or vocational school mechatronics degree/certification with minimum of one (1) year work experience in related field.
