General Description:

The Jr. QC Chemist is responsible to perform physical and analytical testing on in-process bulk material. Prepares lab batch adjustments and performs wet chemistry analysis, approving in-process batch adjustment and approving finished bulk product.

Specific Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Promotes a safe working environment and adheres to Health, Safety and Environmental procedures, company safety rules, Good Laboratory Practices (GLD’s), Common Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP’s), and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) at all times.
  • Performs physical tests including viscosity, pH, specific gravity, and organoleptic tests.
  • Approves batch adjustments for in-process bulk products.
  • Approves and release finished bulk product after completing physical tests.
  • Performs variety of analytical methods using auto-titrator, and variety of wet chemistries following USP or customer specified methods.
  • Performs color-matching analysis using a color analyzer.
  • Performs particle size on in-process product using a particle size analyzer or microscope.
  • Prepares lab batches per adjustment instructions and issue batch adjustment to compounding.
  • Analyzes water from the manufacturing facility using TOC analyzer.
  • Prepares and standardize reagent solutions.
  • Evaluates and approve line start-up finished product samples.
  • Performs full finished good testing as per customer specified.
  • Performs calibration check for laboratory instruments to ensures they are functional and within calibration
  • Ensures Bulk Laboratory is complaint with Health, Safety and Environmental procedures, company safety rules, Good Laboratory Practices (GLD’s), Common Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP’s), and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s)
  • Performs related functions and duties as assigned

Physical Requirements

  • Capable of lifting up to 25 lbs.
  • Capable of standing, walking, and sitting for extended periods

Qualifications:

  • High school education or equivalent.
  • Bachelor of science; Chemistry field preferred.
  • Must have a minimum of 1-2 years’ experience in Quality Control preferably in analytical filed
  • Must be able to maintain a clean, sanitary, and organized work area. Maintains housekeeping in conformance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLD’s), Common Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP’s), and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s)
  • Full knowledge of working with and troubleshooting analytical instrumentation.
  • Good time-management skills
  • Good English communications skills: speaking, reading, and writing.
  • Advanced PC Knowledge i.e. MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) is preferred
  • Flexibility to work long hours during peak season or special schedules as needed to satisfying job requirements.
  • Ability to multi-task and follow through on project assignments
  • Ability to quickly remedy procedural problems
  • Good interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills 
  • Makes suggestions for improvements
  • Communicates and collaborates with management
