General Information:  

This position leads and is responsible for conducting routine testing of samples for the QC laboratory’s microbiology lab, identifying pathogenic and non-pathogenic bacteria, reporting data, and investigating out-of-spec results; will conduct routine testing and monitoring of USP water systems, clean suite, and run quality assays.

 

What are we looking for? 
  

  • BS in Microbiology/Chemistry or related sciences knowledge.
  • Experience with gram stains, sub-culturing and identification of microorganisms and environmental monitoring.
  • Experience with current practices and procedures used in microbiological and analytical laboratory.
  • SAP experience, desired.

 This position is responsible for: 
  

  • Assists the QC Lab Manager in planning, organizing, directing and controlling all activities in the microbiology lab areas.
  • Leads, assigns and/or performs all activities within the microbiology lab to ensure performance expectations, lab schedules and other related activities are met timely and with the highest level of quality. 
  • Motivates, coaches, develops and provides feedback to the micro lab employees to ensure performance expectations are achieved. 
  • Collaborates with the micro lab team and other departments to improve lab operations, and participates in special projects as requested.
  • Reviews bulk product testing results to ensure any required adjustments to the bulk is within specification.  Communicates any out of specs to the appropriate department leaders, as defined by QC Lab Manager.
  • Ensures all equipment is being maintained, calibrated and verified according to applicable standards and specifications
  • Reconciles and maintains inventory of lab supplies and equipment.  Reports inventory levels and communicates discrepancies to the QC Lab Manager.
  •  Identifies and recommends new/upgraded equipment and/or methods to improve productivity and capacity.
  • Leads and/or conducts investigations related to errors, safety incidents, quality defects and deviations to assure that root causes are identified and appropriate corrective action actions are taken and/or implemented.
  • Coordinates and/or performs training for all micro lab employees.  Ensures all micro lab employees have received the necessary training and are following all applicable SOP’s, Work instructions, and cGMPs procedures.
  • Follows, promotes and enforces KDC’s safety and environmental policies, practices and procedures. 
  • Assists the safety department and safety committee with investigations and corrective actions related to safety hazards and/or incidents.
  • Performs all work in a manner that is consistent with the company’s quality system and FDA good manufacturing practices, includes maintaining a clean, contaminant-free and orderly work area at all times.
  • Provide an intermediate level of microbiological support for raw materials, in-process, finished product testing and basic method development/validation.
  • Provide support for ongoing microbial testing of USP water system.
  • Provide support for release testing of media and organisms for use in the lab.
  • Provide support for environmental monitoring programs.
  • Perform data generation/trending and calibration procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records per cGMP.
  • Provide input for writing and revising laboratory guidelines and SOPs.
  • Apply skills in scientific techniques and principles, problem solving, organization of work and cost savings.
  • Comply with procedural guidelines, laboratory procedures and safety procedures.
  • Provide guidance and training to laboratory employees.
  • Other duties as assigned.
