Compensation: Salary starting range $70,000 - $95,000; Commensurate to Skills and Experience.

Hours: Full-time Monday - Friday, 8:30am - 5:00pm

Maas Energy Works is the leading developer and operator of agricultural waste-to-energy systems in the United States. The Company designs, develops, constructs, and operates biogas renewable energy generation systems, primarily on dairy farms. Our projects include anaerobic digesters, biogas-powered electric generation, and renewable natural gas upgrading.


Position Description 

The Safety Manager will be responsible for overseeing and managing all safety protocols and procedures at our dairy digester, biogas, and biogas conditioning plants. This includes developing, implementing, and overseeing safety protocols, conducting site inspections, and ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations. The Safety Manager must balance maintaining high safety standards without compromising operational efficiency. The ideal candidate will ensure a healthy level of safety while allowing operators to perform their tasks effectively, achieving high uptime and operational goals. This role is critical in promoting a safe work environment for all employees and contractors involved in site operations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and Implement Safety Programs: Design, implement, and continuously improve safety policies, procedures, and training programs specific to biogas operations and dairy digester facilities.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations, including OSHA, environmental, and industry-specific guidelines.
  • Incident Response and Investigation: Lead incident investigations, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
  • Safety Training and Education: Provide safety training and guidance to all staff, ensuring they are aware of safety practices while still able to execute their roles efficiently.
  • Risk Assessments: Conduct risk assessments and safety audits regularly to identify potential hazards, offering practical solutions that align with the fast-paced nature of biogas operations.
  • Emergency Preparedness: Develop and maintain emergency response plans and procedures, ensuring all employees are trained and prepared for potential incidents.
  • Collaboration with Operations: Work closely with plant operators to create a culture of safety that supports high productivity, without imposing unnecessary restrictions on operational flow.
  • Monitor Safety Metrics: Track safety performance and maintain records of safety incidents, near-misses, and corrective actions to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Promote a Culture of Safety: Foster a workplace environment that prioritizes safety as a core value, while also promoting efficiency and high up time in all operations.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field (preferred).
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a safety management role, preferably in the renewable energy or construction industry.
  • Familiarity with OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to remote sites as needed.
  • Must be proficient in English.
