SUMMARY

The Project Engineer develops, designs, and executes premium packaging solutions and leads projects to satisfy customer requirements.

 

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Designs new packaging solutions or improvements to existing packaging designs; testing, analyzing, and selecting materials for the most unique or complex packaging based on efficiency, durability, and cost effectiveness.
  • Coordinates the project scope with manufacturing and determines proper course of action for design and manufacturability to achieve customer satisfaction.  Facilitates smooth transition between project/product trials to factory startup, supporting material purchasing and manufacturing scheduling/planning teams as needed.
  • Supports and leads in the design, test, modification, fabrication, and assembly of custom packaging solutions by overseeing testing done by lab or third parties selecting the raw materials and conducting element analysis with consideration for customer and regulatory requirements.
  • Designs processes and procedures for packaging solutions which may include compliance with specific technical and regulatory standards related to product packaging.
  • Creates and executes cross-functional project plans to meet internal company and external client needs.
  • Prepares status reports as required and other project status deliverables to internal and external customers - and facilitates all engineering-related meetings.
  • Guides and leads project performance, risk, and issue resolution for assigned group to maximize project efficiency, customer satisfaction, and company effectiveness.
  • Provides direction to internal stakeholders and project team on requirements to meet internal and external stakeholders’ expectations.
  • Performs detailed design of product solutions including CAD Modeling, CAD drafting, Design for Manufacturability and Assembly, Material selection, and Drawing Specifications.
  • Mentors and coach junior engineers on technical techniques and project management.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
  • Five (5) years of experience managing multiple complex projects simultaneously with design and/or packaging solutions.
  • Experience mentoring and coaching others on technical skills.
  • Experience in Lean/Six Sigma, Failure Modes, and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Dimensioning and Tolerancing standard ASME Y14.5 and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Advanced knowledge of 3D modeling and drafting techniques. 
  • Proficient knowledge of Process development and Process Validation.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office including Word, PowerPoint, Excel.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to perform testing, collect data, and analyze data.
  • Ability to use basic machine shop equipment including use of drill presses, grinding wheels, manual lathes, etc.
  • Ability to do physical hand assembly of prototypes or production products in the lab or on the production floor.
  • Must be eligible to receive information controlled under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering with an emphasis in Design or Packaging
  • Ten (10) of experience managing projects with design and/or packaging solutions
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Finite Element Analysis (FEA) experience
  • SAP experience

  • Must be able to interact effectively and cooperatively with employees at all levels.
  • Must have the ability to complete assignments within the timeframe specified by the Manager.
  • Must be flexible regarding working hours. There are times when projects may require work to be completed in the evening and/or on weekends.
  • Must be able to operate in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Must be able to travel, nationally and internationally, as necessary <5%.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be occasionally required to execute standard physical activities within the facility areas (i.e. stand, walk, sit, use hands/fingers).
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be occasionally required to execute non-standard physical activities within the facility areas (i.e. climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch).
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
  • This position requires repetitive hand/wrist activities.

 

The approximate base compensation range is shown below. The actual offer may vary based on skills, experience and location.
