JOB DESCRIPTION

Final Inspector/Packager

Manufacturing – Direct Labour

Production Supervisor

SUMMARY

Reporting to the Production Supervisor, the Final Inspector/Packager is responsible to assure that all standards set for the finished product and packaging are achieved and that the quality of the product is acceptable as per customer specification and company quality standards.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Inspects finished products for all lines to ensure products meet customer specifications and company quality standards
  • Performs regular routine audit inspections when required to do so
  • Performs cosmetic repairs to finished products prior to packaging that may entail cutting and/or trimming overhanging threads using appropriate tools
  • Returns all imperfections to appropriate departments for repairs
  • Verifies that care and ballistic labels are correct using the Technical Package and 5017 Forms
  • Ensures all packaging material and supplies are available and on hand to meet order requirements. This may require coordination with Materials Department personnel
  • Packages finished products as per shipping and/or customer specifications, produces and affixes proper labels and completes sales order by identifying quantity shipped, back orders etc...
  • Records defects on appropriate documents for follow-up and control and completes other reports and forms as required
  • Monitors and meets required targets
  • Updates computer system regarding quantities shipped and information from sales orders
  • Interacts with product line colleagues regarding product defects, rework and/or quality issues.

  • Maintains respectful communication with co-workers and supervisory staff
  • Familiar with the Company’s ISO Quality Policy and understands the impact of this position on the competitiveness and performance of the company
  • Trained in the requirements of NIJ Standard-0101.06 Ballistic Resistance of Body Armor and to facilitate conformity to the NIJ body Armor Compliance Testing Program specifications
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Complies with and follows Health & Safety policies and how it applies to daily duties
  • Maintains good house keeping skills

EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum grade 10 and/or proven work experience
  • 10 months to 1 year inspection experience preferably in a manufacturing environment
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills; oral and written
  • Ability to multi-task and meet tight deadlines
  • Good math skills
  • Team player
  • Self-management skills
  • Good computer literacy skills; Microsoft Office, MSWord, Excel
  • Knowledge of Dynamics AX an asset 

WORK ENVIRONMENT / STRESS / PHYSICAL EFFORT

Work Environment:

  • The position works within a manufacturing plant environment where constant noise due to open work area is considered to be moderate
  • Some overtime may be required

 

Stress Environment:

  • The employee will encounter changing production priorities and must be flexible and organized

 

MANAGEMENT/SUPERVISORY AND ADVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

Direct Supervision Given:

  • No direct supervisory responsibilities

 

TYPE OF SUPERVISION REQUIRED/INDEPENDENCE OF ACTION

  • Employee works under occasional supervision and has a minimal level of independence of action
  • Methods and procedures to fully understand work are well established and has any ambiguity clarified
  • Questions dealing with unusual matters not covered by policies and procedures are referred to the Production Supervisor

 

CONSEQUENCE OF ERROR

  • Employee must exercise a high degree of accuracy to avoid errors – verifying shipping quantities, labels and items to customer sales orders is critical
  • This is the final step and last opportunity to capture any errors made throughout the manufacturing process

 

CONFIDENTIALITY

  • Tasks sometimes involve having access to customer and sales information
  • Misuse of information could potentially cause a loss of confidence between the customer and the Company

 

CONTACTS

Internal:

  • Routine work involves advising Shipping and Production Supervisor, colleagues, and production employees
  • Works with other department Line Leaders regarding garments requiring rework

 

External:

  • No requirement to interact with external contacts

 

PHYSICAL SKILLS

  • Use of PC to enter shipping and product information
  • Lifting medium weight objects (10-25 lbs)
