Lab Assistant - PRN Days
Position Summary
Collects blood from patients as required; checks quality of blood/specimens; assumes responsibility for the safety and comfort of the patient following established standards and practices. Responsible for specified computer operations, clerical functions and department maintenance. Registers referred outpatient requisitions following registration guidelines. Maintains specimens, reports and slides following established criteria. Performs waived testing and procedures under the oversight of the technical staff. Utilizes criteria established by the College of American Pathologists to ensure excellent performance in the laboratory’s three major clinical functions: collection, analysis and reporting. Displays professionalism for the overall hospital image.

Education/Other Qualifications
· Education: High school graduate or equivalent.
- Licensure/Certification: Phlebotomy certification preferred but not required. Meets all CLIA requirements for testing personnel if applicable.
- Knowledge and Skills: Six months experience preferred or completion of a phlebotomy certification program. Experience is dependent on position requirements.
- Service Skills: Must be detail-oriented; organized; people-oriented. Must have knowledge relating to blood collection and processing. Must be able to perform clerical duties and have working knowledge of computer systems used within the clinical laboratory. Must be able to perform procedures according to established policy and procedure
