Job Title: GIS Technician - Natural Resources

Job Summary:
The GIS Technician (entry level) will work closely with the Haa Aani LLC General Manager and the GIS Manager to update database files from raw data collected in the field. Creation of cartographic tools for staff and partners to use during land activities and operations. Under the supervision of the General Manager or other qualified Natural Resources department staff, some field work will be required to collect information from Sealaska’s land base.  

Only Alaska candidates will be considered, no relocation. 

Duties/Responsibilities:
•    Work with Natural Resources team leads to understand the scope, requirements and objectives for analysis of geospatial data, development of cartographic products, and automation of geospatial tasks using geospatial tools.
•    Daily use of ESRI’s suite of software, primarily ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online.
•    Collaborate with Sealaska Corporation authorized partners to acquire and share data in various formats, and create dashboards for distribution of information made shareable on ArcGIS Online.
•    Assist in development of custom field data collection tools using ArcGIS Survey123, Avenza Maps, ArcGIS Field Maps, and ArcGIS QuickCapture.
•    Utilize multiple data sources, such as remote sensing collected cloud point data, to create models to aid in project level decision-making.
•    Occasionally support the collection of raw data from Sealaska’s land base with GPS equipment.
•    Other duties as assigned. 

Required Skills/Abilities: 
•    Proficient in ESRI mapping software ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online
•    Ability to meet and coordinate the varying work demands of natural resources professional and technical experts.
•    Ability to organize and carry out document production and records maintenance.
•    Proficient with Microsoft Office suite of software. 
•    Ability to interact diplomatically with Sealaska shareholders, visiting professionals, and the general public. 
•    General knowledge of Southeast Alaska region geography.
•    Excellent interpersonal and written skills.
•    Excellent organizational and planning skills with attention to detail.
•    Ability to work in a team setting.

Education and Experience:
•    Bachelor’s degree, preferably in an environmental sciences or ecology related discipline; or equivalent work experience.
•    ESRI Foundation level Technical Certificate or equivalent experience using ArcGIS suite of products

Physical Demands: 
•    Physical demand requirements are more than those for sedentary work.
•    Some travel within the Southeast Alaska region necessary, including remote landscapes.
•    The employee exerts up to 30 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
•    The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to handle or feel and reach with hands and arms.
•    The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
•    Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision.
•    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
•    Comfortable with transportation on small aircraft, helicopters, boats, and off-road vehicles. 
•    The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.

Work Environment: 
This position will sometimes be required to work in the outdoors, and at times may include walking and hiking several miles while carrying equipment weighing approximately 30 lbs.
