Job Summary
The purpose of this position is to perform and supervise E911 Communication Center operations for the Shawano County Sheriff's Department. This position is responsible for supervising work of the E911 Telecommunicators engaged in performing dispatch duties in the Shawano County E911 Center. Position is also responsible for inspecting and reviewing the work of all subordinate employees on an assigned shift. While most decisions are limited by established procedures, specific situations, including emergency situations, may require exercising independent judgment in directing operations. Work involves considerable public contact in providing information and assistance, as well as working with Shawano County Public Safety partner agencies and other area law enforcement agencies. Work may be performed on various shifts.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
-Makes recommendations for staff training needs and implements training programs
-Provides supervision to all Communications Division staff during his/her tour of duty including review of personnel performance and written reports.
-Assists Communications Supervisor with analyzing the Communication Division's needs, identification of problems, and recommendation of solutions/corrective action.
-Participates in the interview process in hiring new E911 Dispatchers. Makes recommendations regarding the selections, promotion, and discipline of supervised personnel.
-Maintain and complete a check of the equipment condition and security of the Communications Center during each assigned shift.
-Monitor and ensure compliance with all Statutes, ordinances, rules, and regulations as they apply to the Communications Division and its assigned personnel.
-Performs E911 Telecommunicator duties as may be required due to staff shortage.
-Any other duty as assigned.
Work Requirements:
-High School Diploma or equivalent.
-A minimum of three years of full-time duty as a dispatcher for Public Safety.
-Related post-high school education in Police Science, Criminal Justice, Corrections Science, Emergency Medical, or Fire Science preferred.
