JOB SUMMARY

 

The Assistant Controller will provide management and oversight of financial accounting and reporting for The Wine Group.  Reporting directly to the VP, Controller, the Assistant Controller will ensure monthly financial packages are completed timely and in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.  The Assistant Controller will be responsible for executing the monthly close process and delivering accurate financial reporting and analysis.  The Assistant Controller will have a strong working knowledge of GAAP as well as exceptional leadership and communication skills. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

  • Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements and cash flow statements.  Ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and regulatory requirements. 
  • Oversee the monthly close process; identify opportunities to streamline processes, improve efficiency, and accelerate the close timing.  Coordinate the overall account reconciliation process, ensuring timely completion and resolution of discrepancies.
  • Coordinate with external auditors during financial audits.  Prepare audit schedules, respond to inquiries, and assist in addressing audit findings and recommendations.
  • Propose accounting treatment for unique transactions.  Research GAAP and prepare technical accounting memos.
  • Manage the JD Edwards general ledger administration including the chart of accounts, locking modules, performing annual close processes, and maintaining access rights.
  • Provide guidance and support to accounting staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment.

 

OTHER FUNCTIONS

 

  • Maintain current working knowledge of accounting standards, regulations, and industry developments. 
  • Participate in special projects as assigned by the Controller or CFO.  This may include system implementations, mergers and acquisitions, or other initiatives requiring financial expertise.

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
  • CPA required
  • Public accounting experience preferred
  • JD Edwards/E1 experience preferred
  • Wine industry experience preferred
  • Proven experience of 10-15 years in accounting related fields, with previous experience in a supervisory or leadership capacity
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Exceptional leadership and managerial skills with the ability to motivate and mentor
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments and influence stakeholders at all levels
  • Demonstrated ability to drive change and promote a culture of continuous improvement
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft office and experience with J.D. Edwards a plus
  • Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to work collaboratively
  • Ability to work independently within set guidelines to accomplish company objectives
  • Analytical and critical thinking skills combined with solid business judgement
  • Commitment to integrity, ethics, and confidentiality in handling of financial information

 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

 

  • Primary work activities are within an office environment.
  • Limited travel to production facilities in California for meeting and/or to assist with projects.

 

 

COMPENSATION

 

  • Hiring Salary Range Posted: $166,200 - $207,800.
  • Actual compensation will be based on factors such as experience; skills, knowledge, and abilities; education; and other position related factors.
