Box Truck Driver

Are you friendly and do you thrive on providing great customer service?  Are you detail-oriented and safety conscious? Do you enjoy working independently?  If so, we’d like you to join our team as a Box Truck Driver. 

 

This job is Monday-Friday, starting at 5 AM. 8-hour shift (plus OT if day requires).

Over time may be available as needed.

About the Role: 

    You will: 

  • Load truck in the morning (including boxes from warehouse and PVP pipe from yard)
  • Drive to customer locations (approximately 1-to-2-hour drive in some cases)
  • Unload material as required (i.e. in garage of townhome being built) This may require hauling material by hand or with use of pallet jack/dolly as other trade vehicles may be in the way and preventing the truck to get exactly where material needs to be dropped. This may entail hauling the material approximately 100 feet to the garage.
  • THIS IS NOT A DOCK-TO-DOCK DRIVING POSITION
  • Assist as needed
  • Warehouse work may be available on slower days as an opportunity to advance job skills with the company.

 

About You: 

  • At least 21 years old if operating a commercial motor vehicle (GVWR of 10,001 lbs. or more) 

  • High school diploma or equivalent 

  • A driving record that meets the criteria for being an Authorized Driver in accordance with Company policy 

  • Must pass a Department of Transportation physical examination before beginning work; to be updated at least every two years while employed and performing this job function 

  • Experience driving a 26-foot box truck

  • Capable of driving a large truck safely
  • Fast paced, eager individual with problem solving skills / critical thinking skills

 

Our ideal candidate will also: 

  • Know laws, rules and regulations governing driving motor vehicles in general, and commercial motor vehicles subject to Department of Transportation regulations in particular. 

  • Be able to safely operate any delivery vehicle, including commercial motor vehicles that have a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of up to 26,000 pounds. 

  • Know of, be able to apply and practice safety precautions in a warehouse and material handling environment. 

  • Be able to build and maintain a positive working relationship with customers, vendors, and co-workers. 

  • Be able to remain calm and function effectively in stressful, unexpected, and/or emergency situations. 

  • Be able to learn to operate warehouse material-handling equipment. 

  • Be able to learn and operate the computer related systems used in the delivery process. 

  • Be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
