The Breakdown:

Burton is working to shift the culture internally at our organization, and in the outdoor industry more broadly by embedding principles of Justice, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (JEDI) into our business strategy and processes.

We are looking for a passionate JEDI subject matter expert to lead and coordinate our initiatives in this space. This individual will report to the VP of Purpose & Impact and collaborate with their colleagues in Purpose and Strategy to develop an overarching JEDI strategy for Burton. This role will also collaborate with cross-functional departments (primarily HR (People & Culture), Product, and Marketing) to drive programs and initiatives forward.

What You Get to Do:

  • Steward, and continually evolve and improve, the Global JEDI strategy for Burton and to impact the outdoor industry more broadly
  • Build and program manage North American JEDI initiatives
  • Drive program objectives through defined project plans; manage implementation activities, and develop processes, documentation and communications for program/process rollout and ongoing support.
  • Communicate new/updated programs, policies, and processes to leaders, employees, and cross functional teams.
  • Engage regional teams to deliver region-relevant JEDI strategies
  • Develop tracking and measurement strategies for the total JEDI strategy and all initiatives, to inform program improvements, influence company-wide decision making, and demonstrate impact
  • Act as a JEDI subject matter expert by contributing perspective, insights, and knowledge
  • Engage in the identification of JEDI best practices, benchmarks, and certifications as input to designing and implementing initiatives
  • Drive cross-functional collaboration to embed JEDI principles and practices across our business
  • Partner with the People & Culture team to embed JEDI practices across our Talent, Performance Management, Employee Engagement, and Company Culture to enable diversity, uphold a culture of inclusion & belonging, and create a fair and equitable work environment
  • Collaborate with the Product and Marketing teams to embed equity and inclusion in our go-to-market practices
  • Engage departments across the business to embed JEDI in their functions, particularly supporting department leads in delivering company diversity and inclusion goals
  • Develop a deep understanding of the business and identify opportunities to embed JEDI
  • Engage employees and increase awareness and understanding of JEDI as a business imperative
  • Uphold and evolve processes and systems to hold leaders accountable in delivering JEDI with their teams, departments, and the scope of the business they deliver on

What You Will Bring to The Team:

  • 3-5 years of relevant JEDI program leadership experience in North America
  • Some experience advancing JEDI outside of the United States is preferred. Particularly impactful if experience is in Europe, Japan, and / or China
  • 3+ years of experience managing or supporting large projects with a record of successfully initiating and furthering business strategies and best practices, working with cross functional stakeholders
  • Experience designing and delivering JEDI learning and development content and experiences

Core Capabilities You Need to Succeed In This Role:

  • Fluency across JEDI practices across topics related to gender, race / ethnicity, sexual orientation, and physical ability
  • Proven track record informing recruiting strategies to increase diversity
  • Proven track record in developing strategies to increase inclusion & belonging, resulting in strong employee retention
  • Excellent project/program management skills
  • Experience setting up tracking and measurement systems, and reporting results
  • Experience managing a suite of initiatives (vs. one project at a time)
  • Experience managing projects with peer-level stakeholders
  • Experience managing up to C-suite executives
  • Highly collaborative, relationship builder: proven ability to successfully approach, build trust, listen, and negotiate across a wide range of stakeholders
  • Ability to influence people: ability to reach beyond immediate scope to influence and lead change initiatives with multiple stakeholders; galvanizes others into action around building more diverse and inclusive environments
  • Highly effective written and verbal communicator: clearly and concisely articulate complex ideas, unique concepts, and proposals to enroll team, peers, and management
  • Impact-driven Strategic thinker: shows curiosity and self-driven thought leadership; proactive in creating solutions, resolving issues, and overcoming hurdles to results.

  • Progress against Burton’s long range Purpose goals. Current goals include:
  • Driving a culture of inclusion & belonging at Burton, as measured via an employee experience survey
  • Increasing diversity among Burton’s staff across gender, sexual orientation, race / ethnicity, and physical ability
  • Increasing representation of historically underrepresented identities in Burton’s marketing and advertising
  • Note: this role is responsible for co-creating Burton’s long range Purpose goals with the VP of Purpose & Impact, Director of Sustainability, Director of Snowboarding Advocacy, and Manager of Philanthropy

Travel:

  • This position requires overnight and international travel; up to 20% per year

Work/Physical Environment:

  • This is an office position. Extended periods of sitting/standing at a computer/workstation expected.
  • We highly prefer this role to be an on-site role in our Burlington HQ offices. We are committed to providing relocation assistance to VT for all successful candidates.
